Frequently Asked Questions
All About Soaps
How does soap differ from synthetic cleansers?
Mainstream detergents and cleansers may contain one or more synthetic surfactants to cleanse your skin, body and home. These may include chemical hardeners, foaming agents, synthetic fragrances, colourings and preservatives. We do not want to put all these chemical stuff on our skin and body, or in contact with the elderly and children.
As for our soap brand SOAP UP, we craft soaps in the most natural possible way to keep it gentle on the skin and the environment, whilst soaps are only scented with organic essential oil blends. We also offer unscented and palm-free options. We recommend you to read our full ingredient list in our product description to find one that suits your preferences.
How does soap cleanse with all natural plant-based oils?
The production of cold-process soap involves mixing natural oils and sodium hydroxide to saponify to become soap and glycerine. Saponification is what gives the soap the cleaning power needed whilst the cleansing quality of different plant oils may vary.
We ensure that there is no sodium hydroxide left in your bar soap in the final process since our formulas are carefully calculated with our chemists and we cure our soaps for at least 6-8 weeks before selling them to you.
Are soaps safe for sensitive skin?
We offer cold-process soaps that only use natural plant oils so they are generally more gentle on skin than commercially produced soaps. We have a few soaps that have been designed specifically for those with sensitive skin, for example the HEY HONEY! and To-the-Rescue.
We recommend that when using soaps for the first time that you test the product on a small part of your skin, especially if you have experienced any allergic reactions in the past.
Essential Oils and Sensitivity
What is the difference between synthetic fragrances and essential oils?
Essential oils are very different to synthetic fragrance oils. They are extracted from plants with a distillation process and possess the aromatherapy benefits of the same plant.
Most fragrances, on the other hand, are not natural. They are mostly petroleum-based with a chemical structure that tries to mimic scents found in nature. Some fragrances are known to be common skin irritants for people with delicate skin and eczema.
Could I be allergic to essential oils?
There are people with allergies to various essential oils in natural beauty products, due largely to some naturally occurring allergens in essential oils, including Limonene and Linalool.
Although these allergens occur naturally in plant essential oils, they are still actives that may cause irritations or allergies in some circumstances. There is also a minority of people cannot tolerate any kind of essential oil.
Any tips for precaution to essential oil allergies?
As with any products that may in contact with the skin, please discontinue use if irritation occurs. Even when made with the most natural, gentle ingredients, botanical actives can be irritating to certain sensitive individuals.
